Meet some of our Charlevoix Photography Club members...
Photographer Wally Stansbury
Wally is a retired Air Force Officer. For most of his career he flew the C-141 transport/cargo aircraft all over the world, the C-9 medical evacuation aircraft in the European theater and the C-7 short-field take-off and landing aircraft in Viet Nam resupplying military forward outposts. After retiring from his last assignment in the Pentagon, he and his wife, Betty, moved to Florida. They lived there for several years and on a recommendation from a friend they started vacationing in northern Michigan where they eventually make their home.
Ever since childhood, photography had been an on-and-off again venture until their permanent move to Michigan. After taking an on-line compositional course through the local college, photography became a passion during his free time. Landscape, wildlife, night photography all played a part in his photography not only for his own enjoyment but more importantly to reveal the beauty of God’s incredible creation.

Photographer J.B. Hoyt
J.B. Hoyt has been involved in photography for over 50 years. He came by the hobby naturally as his father owned a large camera shop in Flint, MI. This provided a way to learn a good deal about the elements of photography, various camera brands, lens types and qualities, along with seeing the successes of many customers.
J.B. is a long-time Canon shooter, having worked his way through several film models before finally moving into the digital world early in the 21st century. Today he can be found behind a Canon R5 with any one of a variety of lenses. J.B. admits to being something of a gear fanatic, owning lenses covering focal lengths from 8mm to 500mm. He manages his images in Lightroom.
With a primary interest in nature, wildlife and landscape photography, he rarely travels without his camera and a lens or two. J.B. comments, “Being involved in the CPC has allowed me to learn so much from other members including composition and interesting locations in the area as well as becoming friends with many other members. Group shooting events are a wonderful way of seeing how others approach our hobby!” He can be reached at [email protected].

Photographer Kevin Dietrich
Kevin and his wife Arlene are residents of Charlevoix, both grew up loving Northern Michigan and all its beauty and enjoy biking, hiking, and all that the four seasons offer. Kevin will be retiring in the summer of 2021 from being an engineer at General Motors for over 30 years, the last years he has worked on both electric and autonomous vehicles. His wife is a retired school teacher.
His interest in photography started with a Minolta XG-7 film camera. His first film developing was done in his parents bathroom while living with them in East Jordan. He later took photography classes in college and spent a lot of time in the dark room. A transition to digital photography took place while living in Germany from 1996 to 2001. His first digital camera was a 1 megapixel Kodak DC220 model, he now photographs with Canon equipment and uses Lightroom and Photoshop instead of the dark room.
Much of his current inspiration comes from his older brother Bill, another long time club member. He loves being out in nature and capturing the emotion of what he sees and hopes you can feel some of it as well when viewing his work.

Photographer Mark Stanley
Mark and his wife Anne (born and raised in Charlevoix) have two adult sons and a daughter living in CT and MD. Although retired from a career in Insurance Underwriting and Risk Management, Mark brings his camera during his part time “retirement” job as a courier to snap photos of eagles and so far, the elusive snowy owl. Mark can be reached at 231-437-3135 or [email protected].

I am a native Michigander originally from downstate. Now my husband and I live in gorgeous northern Michigan in the city of Petoskey.
Although I have always loved photography, it has only been in the last 8-9 years that I have had the time to devote to it. I especially love nature photography, including landscape & macro.
Being a member of the Charlevoix Photography Club has been great because I've been able to develop my photographic skills over the years due to their lectures and classes and also due to the inspiration, generous help, and encouragement of its members.

Photographer Mark Haveman
Mark has always had an interest in photography, beginning in the 70’s photographing sports car races and continuing always with a camera nearby. Photography at that time was mostly for recording family, events and vacations but just below the surface was a desire to do much more. Whether you call it natural or developed over time, Mark has an “eye” for composition. The move to Northern Michigan in 2012 after retirement created even more interest in improving his skills. Joining the Charlevoix Photography Club provided the very springboard Mark was looking for to improve his skills. Digital photography and software enhancement is a daily activity for Mark.

Photographer Bob Beauchamp
Bob has spent his life as an enthusiastic photographer starting right out of high school with a Kodak Retina 3C 35mm film camera. Going through more cameras than he’d like to admit, he has settled on two favorites: a Canon EOS 6D and an Apple iPhone 13 Pro.
He has been fortunate to be able to travel all over the world, including all seven continents. While on these trips and expeditions, he specializes in capturing images of spectacular landscapes and diverse, interesting people.
Originally from Indiana, Bob and his wife Sharon purchased a vacation home at the Hemingway Pointe Club on beautiful Lake Charlevoix in 1988. Today they spend their summers in gorgeous northern Michigan and their winters in Southern Florida. He published a book of his favorite photographs in 2019, “A Bit Of The World As Seen By My Eyes” and posts a picture on Facebook nearly daily under RobertBeauchamp and encourages members of the club to become his “Friends”.
Bob’s portrait was taken at the end of the same trek Ernest Shackleton made on South Georgia Island in 1916 to save his crew in Antarctica. The image of the iceberg was taken in Greenland. Bob’s email is: [email protected]
